Media Downloader for Telegram Web · Last updated September 6, 2026
In short: Media Downloader runs entirely inside your own browser. It has no server, no account, and no analytics. It never collects, transmits, or stores your personal data anywhere. Everything below explains exactly what the extension touches and why.

Who this policy covers

Media Downloader for Telegram Web is a Chrome extension developed by an individual developer (Harsh). It helps you save media from a Telegram Web conversation you already have open, to your own computer. This policy explains what the extension accesses in your browser, how it is used, and what control you have over it.

This project is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Telegram.

What data we collect

None. Media Downloader does not collect, store, or transmit any personal or sensitive user data. There is no backend server to send data to. The developer has no access to your Telegram account, your messages, your files, or any information about how you use the extension.

What the extension accesses on your device

Media Downloader only runs on pages at web.telegram.org. On those pages it reads the conversation that is currently on screen in order to list the media in it — filenames, file sizes, captions, durations and media types. This reading happens locally in your browser, and the results exist only for as long as the extension's panel is open.

When you choose to save a file, the extension transfers that file's data inside your browser and writes it to your computer's downloads folder. The file goes from your existing Telegram session to your disk and nowhere else.

Media Downloader has no access to any other website, and does not read, modify, or monitor anything outside web.telegram.org.

Permissions and why they are needed

The extension requests no other permissions. It does not use the tabs, history, cookies, bookmarks, clipboard, camera, microphone, or location APIs.

Where your data is stored

Files you save are written to your computer's downloads folder by Chrome, in the location you have configured. The extension keeps no database, no cloud storage, and no record of what you have downloaded. Closing the panel discards its in-memory list.

Remote code

Media Downloader executes no remote code. All of its JavaScript is included in the extension package that Chrome installs and reviews. Nothing is fetched and run from an external server at any point.

Third parties

Media Downloader contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting code, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Your data is not shared, sold, rented, or transmitted to anyone, because it is never collected in the first place.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to retain and use any content you save with this extension, and for complying with Telegram's terms of service and with copyright law in your jurisdiction.

Children's privacy

Media Downloader is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, regardless of age — since the extension does not collect or transmit data at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
